: :  News - Corrosion Study
Wednesday, May 31, 2006

LMI and R&K were recently awarded a contract to study the effects of corrosion on DoD equipment and facilities. Because of its innovative work on the cost implications of corrosion on the DoD facility inventory, R&K Engineering was asked to team with LMI on a larger study of the impacts of corrosion on DoD equipment and facilities. The Department of Defense has developed and is implementing a long-term strategy to reduce corrosion and the effects of corrosion on the Departments' military equipment and infrastructure. The Department has established a fully functioning corrosion policy and oversight organization. It has established multiple Service corrosion prevention and control integrated product teams, and institutionalized corrosion prevention and mitigation as a key component in the planning process. The LMI-R&K Team is measuring the annual cost of corrosion impact to DoD equipment and facilities. R&K's work will be to facilitate the collection and measurement of the cost impact of corrosion on DoD facilities and infrastructure.
