: :  News - Government Accountability Office (GAO) & U.S. Department of Defense use R&K’s Facilities Sustainment Model for Benchmarking Budgets and Expenditures
Wednesday, April 01, 2009

In a recent report by the Government Accountability Office (GAO), facilities sustainment across the Department of Defense (DOD) was analyzed.   The thrust of the report (March 2009 report GAO-09-336) was the anticipated impacts of creating 12 Joint Bases under the 2005 Base Closure and Realignment Commission (BRAC 05).  But a significant part of the report addressed facilities sustainment across all DOD installations, in addition to the 26 installations being consolidated into the Joint Bases.

The report based all of its sustainment analysis and findings on the dollar requirements for facilities sustainment that are provided by the R&K Facilities Sustainment Model (FSM).  This model, originally  developed in 1998 and continuously supported by R&K since, calculates the average yearly sustainment dollars needed for each facility use and each facility user organization across DOD. The FSM reports these costs for well over 700,000 records and aggregates these to summary requirements at Installation, Managing Command, and Military Service levels.
